Lent 2003 - Easter 2004
At the beginning of the Lent Term 2003 the Schola sang at the Vigil Mass at Westminster Cathedral and the following week at a special Mass of celebration marking the Consecration of Bishop Alan Hopes at Our Lady of Victories, Kensington. On Ash Wednesday the Schola sang the Allegri Miserere and later in the term sang the Fauré Requiem at a concert in aid of the Passage Centre for the Homeless at Farm Street. The Summer Term included the Annual Confirmation Mass at Our Lady of Victories, as well as Mass for Corpus Christi at which the Schola sang Mendelssohn's Lauda Sion. The annual Schola Party took place in Northfields, kindly arranged as ever by some of our very supportive parents.
Michaelmas Term began with one of our regular fixtures - Mass for the Papal Knights at Warwick Street. We sadly bid farewell to Our Chairman of Governors, Fr Vincent Brady, Parish Priest at Our Lady of Victories who left to take up his new position as Private Secretary to the Papal Nuncio. We sang at a Mass in his honour on September 27th. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Fr Vincent for his immense support - he was always extremely encouraging and accommodating towards the boys making them feel extremely valued. We miss him greatly and wish him well in his new position.
The following day we sang High mass at Westminster Cathedral in Place of the Cathedral's own choir which was away on tour. The Mass setting was Dvorak in D. Foundation Day mass was held at Our Lady of Victories on 3 October. Some of the boys took part in a live BBC Radio 4 Broadcast of Sunday Worship which came from the Maria Assumpta Convent Chapel in Kensington. The Schola took part as ever in the St Cecilia Concert at St Paul's, Hammersmith and Speech Day in the New Hall. The Trebles were invited to sing carols at a Charity Reception in the Lord Chancellor's Apartments in the House of Lords. The Schola sang Mass at Nazareth House and the Trebles sang in the Junior Christmas Concert and at the Senior Citizens Christmas Party at CVMS. The term was rounded off by four performances of Carols at the Dorchester during afternoon tea.
During Lent Term the Schola sang at the Requiem of a very distinguished Old Vaughanian, Philip Daniel, who was a former Governor. The Requiem took place at St George's Cathedral, Southwark and was celebrated by Bishop George Stack. The Schola also took part in the tour to Germany which is described elsewhere and included a recital in Cologne Cathedral.PAST REVIEWS
