Summer 2007 - Summer 2008
In Michaelmas 2007 the Schola made sang at the Annual Mass for the Papal Knights at Warwick Street. In October the Schola was invited to sing in a live broadcast of BBC Radio 4’s Sunday Worship which was transmitted from Addison Hall. The theme of the service, which reached an estimated two million listeners, was ‘Finding God in Cancer’. It was presented by Bishop George Stack and the preacher was Sister Amadeus Bulger. The service generated a great deal of interest in the school which was demonstrated by a huge spike in the number of visitors to the Schola website (www.scholacantorum.co.uk) and the large number of emails which we received from grateful and appreciative listeners. The Schola sang Duruflé’s Requiem during the Choral Concert at St Paul’s, Hammersmith. The choir travelled to Paris following an invitation to sing High Mass at Notre Dame Cathedral. The music included the double choir Mass by Widor which sounded particularly impressive in such a splendid setting. The Carol Service at Our Lady of Victories included the beautiful contemporary carol Lux aurumque by the Californian composer Eric Whitacre. As usual there were several seasonal engagements including the annual Carol Service at the Oriental Club and Carols at the Dorchester, and some of the boys joined forces with the London Oratory Junior Choir to sing in multiple performances of the Royal Ballet’s annual Christmas production, The Nutcracker, at Covent Garden. In March 2008 the Schola went to Austria as part of the Music Department Tour which is recounted elsewhere. During the Summer term the Schola sang in the Sports Foundation Concert at St. John’s, Smith Square and at the wedding of a former pupil at the Holy Ghost & St Stephen. During May and June some members of the Schola were involved in the Royal Ballet’s production of The Dream at Covent Garden. The Schola is going on tour to Venice in October 2008 and will be singing Mass at St. Mark’s Basilica.
