Appearing on London's operatic stages

Updated: Jan 27, 2023

The final months of 2022 have seen the boys of the Schola appearing in opera at both the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and at the Coliseum with English National Opera.

Earlier in the term boys appeared as part of ENO's production of Tosca. They sang in 14 performances during October and November and were described as bringing 'vivacity and vocal accuracy to the stage'.

Throughout October and November we also provided boys and girls for the Royal Opera's of La boheme. There were 17 performances of this opera and the children were widely praised for their strong contribution to the production.

Meanwhile, one of our boys, Malakai Bayoh, was preparing to perform the substantial solo role of Oberto in Handel's Alcina at Covent Garden. His performances during November won him rave reviews - he was described as 'a star in the making' who 'enraptured the entire audience ' by the Telegraph.

Throughout November and December, twenty boys from the Vaughan sang in nine performances of the Royal Opera's Tosca.

And four of our boys are currently singing the Knaben solo roles in Mozart's The Magic Flute at Covent Garden - this runs until the end of January 2023.
